Union Square Cafe's Off Menu Gem
My daughter graduated from university during the pandemic when the prospect of employment looked murky. She moved back home with me where she spent some time figuring out what to do next. We created a co-working space in our living room and embraced our individual working rhythms––mine in publishing and she in marketing. Every so often, when the weight of the day pressed down on our our spirits, one of us invited the other to share a drink or a bite in our neighborhood. Union Square Cafe, a few blocks away, became our pick-me-up place. We’d sit at the bar, have a glass of wine, nibble on olives and share an app or two.
Fast forward and my daughter is now living in Paris, working in hospitality while studying to be a sommelier. I’m so proud of her and I miss her terribly. Her ability to create a taste memory paired with geographic references both fascinates and impresses me. I visit as often as I can and cherish the memories we created while living together in what was a new sort of adult, mother/daughter space.
These caviar topped tater tots are an indulgence for sure… and a welcomed one. A crispy outer layer coupled with the briny bursts make this both satisfying and exciting. They aren’t always on the menu so be certain to ask if you’re in the mood for a little treat. Or like me, you are missing your daughter.
